Winter has gripped Anikira alongside a dangerous and deadly disease that has begun to spread throughout the continent. Three brothers emerged from the Southern Isles searching for a cure. Will they find it on Anikira?
Snow is falling all over the North while Winter brings the wet season to the south. The disease is slowly spreading, and so far there is no cure in sight. Who will find it? And will it be in time to save Anikira and The Southern Isles?
Winter was coming to its end, slowly but surely, and Valdis was thankful. She wondered if Aesir would experience the patter of pups’ paws this spring, and, if so, whether she would still be around to meet them. Last breeding season, they had welcomed so many new faces, and it had brought Valdis joy like no other. Despite her thorny exterior, she loved pups fiercely. There was nothing so sacred as new life.
Today, Valdis had returned to the cave in which she’d experienced and witnessed almost all the births on the island. Only Ragnar had caught her by surprise and been born out in the frigid wilds of Miera’s craggy landscape. She had still nursed him here, though, after Volsungs had helped her carry him into the dens. Gods, it felt so long ago now. It felt like a different lifetime. Things had changed so much since then. Ragnar had grown, she and Volsungs had fallen in love, another generation of Valdis’ legacy had been brought into the world.
She curled up smaller, trying to retain the little warmth that the cavern offered and fend off feelings of guilt that always sprouted when she thought of Ragnar. Had she been the best mother she could have been? Sometimes she was not sure. He had always been more difficult than the others, less willing to accept her love, but Valdis adored him. She adored all her children, but Ragnar had always occupied just a little more space in her heart. The others all had littermates and a father, but Ragnar was an only child, in a sense. He had never accepted Volsungs as a father figure, too obsessed with Fenris to entertain the thought of another parent. Sometimes she thought Ragnar loved Fenris more than he loved his mother, but she tried to put it out of her mind.
She breathed a heavy sigh as she rolled over into a new position, half-chasing sleep. Were her last days to be whiled away thinking of all her failures? She hoped not. Ragnar would be fine, she knew, when she was gone. He had the combined strength of two great parents. Vali would be fine, too. The boy had always had his head in the clouds. She knew he would regret not being around when she passed, but she was glad that he was doing what made him happy. When he left, Valdis had been torn apart by it, but in time she had accepted that she could not mould all her children into her spit image. They had their own paths to tread.
And the quintuplets would thrive, too. She was the least worried about them, as they all had each other, but she regretted how little time she would have with them comparatively. Mostly, she worried about Volsungs. Their love was like no other, and she had no idea how she would cope with living through Volsungs’ death. Selfishly, she was glad she would not have to survive without her other half, as he would have to.

[attr="class","pltxt"] Ragnar washed back up on the shore of Miera, the salty sting of the ocean bringing him back home. This was the place that she bore him and now this would be the place that he had to say goodbye. It was too painful for him to consider which was perhaps why he had been gone for so long. He missed this place more than he could comprehend and the memories of his childhood were almost haunting. Valdis was still here and yet he didn't think he could remain on this isle knowing that eventually she would die here. Pulling himself up from the sea he moved inland shaking the salt and sand from his pelt. It was always a difficult swim for him which made it all the more impressive when Rhoslyn made the swim on her own to meet him. His muscles ached and his bones popped a little as he got used to standing on land once again. Groaning a little he tried to pick up the scent of his mother, hoping that she would be alone. While he was working to get over his feelings about Volsungs and his relationship with his mother he wasn't ready to face the brute. They had too much between them for Ragnar to solve right now and all he cared about was spending some time with his mother before she passed. That weighed so heavily on his mind that he couldn't believe how selfish he had been. The brute had wasted so much time focusing on something that didn't matter, for Volsungs did not impact his relationship with his mother at all.
A part of him wondered how he could be so stupid to doubt the love of his mother just because she was looking for some happiness. Ragnar could fathom that to some degree because he was spending so much time with Rhoslyn. Knowing that despite the time he had spent away his mother he had not changed. Perhaps he was not so reliant on her as he thought, same as she was not as reliant on him. She had moved on and made her new family and yet he was still here and still a part of her life. Those fears that he had once held on to seemed unfounded and he now had to reflect on his own immaturity. He hadn't been emotionally capable of dealing with the feeling of abandonment. Not having a steady father drove his insecurities home. Even though he believed he was the spawn of a god there was still the doubt in the back of his head. Was it so easy for his parents to turn away from him? Perhaps that was the path that he was meant to take. After spending enough time on the Oriens he felt in a better place mentally. He could now deal with these feelings more healthily knowing that his world would not shatter to pieces without Valdis by his side.
Finding her trail he sought her out, eager to see her face, hear her voice. His tail began to wag in excitement knowing that he would finally get to see his mother again. At least if she would accept seeing him again. He would deserve it if she turned away from him and shunned him for his previous behavior. "Mother...?"

Brunilda initially started on Anikira from Foraz. She had been hand-chosen by the Commander, Olympus herself. She along with her partner in position - Rhett, saved the pack from a nosey and no-good intruder. It was in her dedication to Olympus and Foraz, that he again picked her to bring forth a treaty between Aludri and Foraz - joining them together. She continues to be a strong character with a good sense of right and wrong. We cannot wait to see what Susy does with her next!
